Welcome to The Abreact Website!

Since the turn of the century, The Abreact Performance
Space has been dedicated to be a platform for up and
coming Detroit area actors, directors and designers.
The Abreact provides an off-Broadway style
approach to contemporary theater. Our stage
has been shared by fresh faced graduates and
tried and true local professionals alike, and will
remain open to anyone willing to try their hand at
cultural excellence. The Abreact motto
will continue to be "Free Theater in Detroit!"

...although we graciously accept donations!

ATTENTION PLEASE:

In an effort to keep in line with the state wide smoking ban that became a reality as of last May, The Abreact will no longer allow smoking in the lounge/kitchen area. However, smoking will be allowed in the lobby by the elevator and of course outside.

We appreciate your cooperation and consideration for our non-smoking patrons.

TrueWest.jpg

The Abreact kicks off Season 10 with True West by Sam Shepard.

Two estranged brothers meet up for the first time in five years in Mom’s kitchen. The rivalry between the two brings out the primal instincts of a sibling rivalry in true Shepard fashion. Fake punches do not fly in this masterpiece. True West features the familiar faces including Chris Korte, Eric Maher, Linda Rabin Hammell, and Joel Mitchell. The show is directed by Charles Reynolds.

Show dates: Sept. 3rd through 25th, Fridays & Satudays 8PM/Sunday Sept. 19 at 4PM.

Yes it's true, The  Abreact has been "relocated" to accommodate the expanding operations of Nikki's Loft (the bar)! The old 442 space has been completely gutted and is no more.
On to the rebirth of The Abreact! Things that should thrill and delight our patrons:
-No hassle parking!
-No stairs to climb!
-2 bathrooms!
-Same intimate feel with a matured look!
Stay tuned for the 2009/10 season plus our house warming bash coming soon!
Be well!
